UPRT Consulting Services that I Provide

Upset Prevention & Recovery Training is becoming prevalent in the International Aviation Community. It seems that everyone wants to provide it. Although it is not reuired for all licensing training, the regulations are changing quickly. Loss of Control In-flight has the highest fatality rate of  any category of aviation accident. While upsets—situations involving extreme excursions in pitch, bank, and airspeed—are not common, pilots and crews can be startled or surprised by their occurance. Control inputs in severe upsets are counterintuitive. Pilots must be trained to handle them. While most commercial pilots receive some simulator training, that environment simply does not satisfactorily address human factors issues that on-aircraft training does. And the private pilot community receives no useful training in actual upset recovery during the course of licensing training.

You will be hard-pressed to find a UPRT coach that can show you how to teach UPRT in the academic, on-aircraft and simulator environments well enough to avoid negative transfer of skills and learning. UPRT providers are simply not in the business of helping you improve your game. Their are no longer any secrets in UPRT. Maybe 15 years ago...But UPRT must be taught in accordance with established international guidance. Unfortunately that guidance cannot teach you the nuances of excellent Upset Prevention and Recovery Training. I can.

I have almost 8700 flyng hours. I've been flying since 1981. I am a former F-16 fighter pilot. I have ten years and almost 5000 quality flying hours devoted solely to teaching UPRT. I've taught in Decathlons, Extra 300 and 330Ls, the SIAI Marchetti S211 jet in both the low and high altitude environment to FL330. I've also taught extensively in simulators, including type specific level D ERJ-145, CRJ-200 through 900, Learjet 45, Citation 500 and CJ 1+ simulators. Being one of the most experienced UPRT instructors in the World allows me to provide you with invaluable insight into teaching UPRT well.

These are the specific areas that I can coach you on:

  • How to run UPRT operations to maximize efficiency and get return clients

  • How to hire and train effective UPRT instructors.

  • How to develop effective UPRT integrated programs (academics, flying, and if desired, simulator).

  • How to effectively teach transfer of skills and learning, and how to avoid negative transfer of skills and learning.

  • How to teach simulator exercises to guarantee maximum learning and retention.
