BIO
My name is Karl Schlimm. I am a former U.S. Air Force Fighter Pilot and current consultant specializing in aircraft Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT). I have taught my clients—most of whom are very accomplished corporate, airline and military aviators—how to avoid losing control of their aircraft during “upsets,” which are situations involving dangerous airspeed excursions, extreme pitch attitudes (nose-up or nose-down), or over-banked conditions. I have also given pilots the essential skills to regain control of their airborne vehicles if they do experience these loss-of-control in-flight (LOC-I) situations.
I personally have over 8600 adrenaline-filled flight hours and three decades of experience in a wide range of aircraft including the supersonic F-16 “Fighting Falcon” fighter jet, the supersonic T-38 Talon jet trainer, the T-37 and Siai-Marchetti S211 subsonic jet trainers, the OV-10, the Unlimited Class Aerobatic Extra 300L, and about two dozen other aircraft. In the complex, hazardous environments in which I have routinely flown, not only as a fighter jet instructor and formation airshow pilot, but also as a commercial pilot, I have become well-versed in the art of situational awareness,or “SA,” as a foundation for making life-saving decisions.
